this week's next steps
This week's study
In this week’s installment of our “God Problems” series, we asked the question, “What does the future hold for me?” And if you were paying attention, you know that there wasn’t really any concrete answer provided. What we did see, however, is obedience reflected in the life of Abram. In Genesis 12, God calls Abram to follow Him into the unknown, away from everything he is comfortable with. Abram was established in his life when God called him. He was stable. And yet, he trusted God to lead him, even when the situation and surroundings were unfamiliar. Verse 1 illustrates this for us. It says, “The Lord had said to Abram, ‘Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.’” And he did.
Abram didn’t let the uncertainty or the fear of failure stop him. He went as God told him despite all those things. He was probably scared or home sick at times. Who wouldn’t be?! But surely, knowing that he was walking in the will of God had to bring him peace. He didn’t wait for clarity. He didn’t wait for explanation. He trusted God! Abram’s obedience was rooted in trust. Abram trusted God because of who He is, and not because of what He gives. Oftentimes, we are so caught up in waiting for a peace or confirmation from God before we step out in faith, but sometimes the peace we are searching for doesn’t come until after we choose to obey what God is asking us to do. So what are we waiting for?

Questions to Consider:
- In what area(s) of your life are you delaying obedience to God? Do you think it is because you are waiting for confirmation before obeying?
- Where is God asking you to trust Him with your future?
- Consider Genesis 12:1. Are you willing to obey God in the same way Abram did? Why or why not?
