This week's study

From the very beginning, God declared, "It is not good for the man to be alone" (Genesis 2:18). We were created not just to exist, but to belong—to live in meaningful connection with others. Whether relationships last for a reason, a season, or a lifetime, they all serve a divine purpose in our growth, healing, and joy. The early church modeled this beautifully, gathering daily, sharing their lives, meeting needs, and growing together in faith (Acts 2:42-47). Community is not merely a bonus to the Christian life; it is a core part of our design and calling.

Living out our faith in isolation often leads to spiritual stagnation, discouragement, and loneliness. But in community, we are strengthened, encouraged, and refined. Hebrews 10:24-25 urges us to think creatively about how we can spur one another on toward love and good deeds, reminding us to keep meeting together and lifting each other up. In seasons of hardship, community carries our burdens (Galatians 6:2); in seasons of celebration, it multiplies our joy. And beyond our personal benefit, community reveals God's love to the world. Jesus said, "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another" (John 13:35). When we live connected lives, rooted in love and purpose, we reflect the heart of God and help fulfill His mission on earth.

May we never underestimate the power of showing up, serving faithfully, and choosing to walk alongside others. Whether for a reason, a season, or a lifetime, community is where faith becomes real, love becomes visible, and purpose becomes possible.

Questions to Consider:

  1. In what ways have different types of relationships (reason, season, lifetime) shaped your faith journey?
  2. Why do you think God places such a strong emphasis on community throughout Scripture?
  3. Can you recall a time when being part of a Christian community encouraged you during a difficult season?
  4. How can you be more intentional about forming or deepening relationships in your church or small group?
  5. What are some barriers that keep you or others from engaging in community, and how might we help overcome them?
  6. In what ways can you use your gifts to serve and strengthen the community around you?
